Hi there,

Icy will crash under Java 8 if you try to use the VTK 3D feature, but it will work just fine if you have Java 6. I have already seen discussions under this forum on how you can revert to Java 6 on your OS X, but I can't since some other apps I use require Java 8. I actually have both Java 8 and Java 6 installed at the same time, and some apps like Photoshop can detect the Java 6 that they need and just use it. I was wondering if anyone knows how you can make Icy to use Java 6 instead of Java 8?

I have used this command myself:

 /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Commands/java -jar ./icy.jar

But it will not even load the VTK plugin, and it will sometimes not open files, and also this, but it will end up opening the icy using Java 8 rather:

/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Commands/java -jar ./icy.jar

Thanks,

Soroush

Hi Soroush,

The command you used should make it but we indeed recommend to completely remove java8 so there is possible conflict when launching Icy.
Hopefully the next version of Icy which should arrive very soon (the next week actually) will be able to use java8 and make VTK to work correctly at same time so you will be able to definitely pass to java 8 and forget the old java 6 :)

Best,

- Stephane
