We just released a new version of Icy ! A long way again to bring this new version.
One of the major change is the complete reworked 3D visualization based on the fresh VTK 6.1 (developers using VTK in their plugins should verify for compatibility as VTK 6 is unfortunately not 100% backward compatible with VTK 5.X). This version should also improve stability on win32 system with limited amount of memory.
As usual check the changelog to get the complete list of changes !

Hi,

Thanks for the new version ! Linux users should however install and compile VTK6.1  using this tutorial for instance : http://www.particleincell.com/blog/2011/vtk-java-visualization/

However when using 3D view, I have a new X widow appearing, so I move the mouse in the ICY window and the 3D objects move in the other window (telepathy ;-) ). I can get the 3D view inside the ICY window when switching to detached mode.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the link with the VTK compilation process. Indeed VTK library is not yet available through usual linux installer software so you have to compile it yourself to start with. Hopefully i think it's much easier to do it on a Unix based system where compilers tools are always present, also linux users are somehow used to that :)
Also thanks for reporting the weird window duplication issue ! Just to be sure the problem does not come from a daemon plugin, can you try to temporary move all plugins from "plugins" folder elsewhere and test if the duplicated window still happen, i remember of some plugin potentially doing something wrong with VTK.

Cheers,

- Stephane

Hi Stéphane,

I renamed the folder plugins and I got the same result. I attached a screenshot for your information. Maybe it´s due to a option in VTK compilation.

cheers,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for testing and the screenshot. Actually i think that is a problem of mixing lightweight and heavyweight component. We have the same issue on last OSX systems. A temporary workaround is to use the "detached" mode when you work with VTK.
On our side, i guess we will have to use the OpenGL canvas instead of Swing one the next time but that is a big change !

Best,

- Stephane
