Dear ICT Community,

as you all know it is crucial that young students get workplace ready and gain an understanding of the possibilities and diversity that jobs in the ICT industry offer. I am therefore referring to you the request by Leigh Morrow from Workplace Learning Illawarra.

We hope that some of you have the capacity to support Leigh and the ICT students that he looks after! Please find Leigh's contact details below in his signature and contact him directly if you can support his request. Thank you!

Sibylle

My name is Leigh and I am endeavouring to secure some Information Technology / Digital Animation hosts for HSC students (one week workplacement).

Are you able to help?? It would be greatly appreciated and the placement can be accommodated to suit whichever week or weeks suit you.

What is Workplacement and Workplace Learning Illawarra?

Workplace Learning Illawarra provides a free service to students, schools and employers across the Illawarra region.  We are funded by state and federal governments to coordinate structured work placements for students who are undertaking Vocational Education & Training (VET) 2 unit courses that form part of HSC syllabus.

Work placement is similar to a work experience in that:

1. Students attend a business/employer for one week (35 hours) to learn about the industry

2. It is unpaid

3. Students are insured

The difference is that work placement is:

1. Mandatory.  If students don't complete a minimum of 35 hours workplacement for each year of their course, they will not receive an HSC

2. Students must be placed in the industry that directly relates to their course of study

3. Students need to undertake tasks or duties that relate to the course they are studying at school or TAFE

4. Students receive (in addition to their HSC) a nationally recognised, industry accredited qualification if they successfully complete their work placement and all of their course competencies

I can meet with you at any time to discuss and fill out Host Registration details should you decide you can help us. Your support of our local students would be much appreciated.
