This uninstalled the driver, asked for a reboot, reinstalled the driver, and asked for a reboot once again. Still, the mic was too quiet. Next, I manually installed Waves MaxxAudio from -us/p/waves-maxxaudio-pro-for-dell/9nb9srtl2kpt?rtc=1&activetab=pivot:overviewtab .
After rebooting, the built-in mic worked fine, like it did before, and the levels were good. However, I was unable to get my external speakers or wired headset to work. Not only did the popup not appear when plugging things into the jack in the laptop, audio was simply never delivered to the jack (or taken in from the headset mic). I double checked that the checkbox to enable the prompt on insertion popup was enabled (within MaxxAudio, under the Playback tab, under the Advanced options).
I tried restarting, then uninstalling Waves MaxxAudio. Still, I couldn't get output on the external speakers or headset (nor input from the headset mic). Reinstalling Waves MaxxAudio after that didn't help, either.
I'd roll back the driver, but of course, Windows acts like there was no previous driver to roll back to, even though I can see in the hardware events tab that the previous driver was installed last November.
The next time I have the laptop in front of me and have some time, I'll plan to delete the audio device from Device Manager, then restart, then manually install drivers (either an older version I find on the web or the one provided by Dell). But I have no clue if it will work or if Windows Update will still override the driver at some point and break it again. (I already had the ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate value in the registry set to block Windows Update driver updates, but apparently that wasn't actually respected by MS.)
Hi I didn't achive fix waves, however if u choose the generic microsft driver instead of realtek, the headphones work properly. Furthermore you have to stop automatic driver installation otherwise windows will set realtek as default driver again.
For months I resisted the suggestion from Microsoft to update my Laptop to Windows 11 because it was 'compatible'. I finally gave in. I didn't check with Dell first and I've subsequently found out that the last official support for this model's drivers was Windows 10. I and am now having problems with the audio drivers detecting anything plugged into the 3.5mm audio jack. I have so far tried all the solutions posted on the web, from a problem with the device cable to reinstalling drivers. Anecdotally, this started with Windows 11 sporadically up until a few days ago when I reinstalled the Microsoft Audio Inputs And Outputs Drivers via Device Manager. This worked until I rebooted (but without any pop up window) until a reboot. It is not working at all now. Before I bite the bullet and revert to Windows 10, I thought I might as if anyone has any suggestions:
For the Audio Inputs and Outputs: 'Device settings for xyz were not migrated from previous OS installation due to partial or ambiguous device match.' (I suspect that this is the main problem. However, it's a Microsoft driver and the 'Roll Back' option is greyed out).
I have tried updating the Dell Waves MaxxAudio Pro drivers for my model via the Dell support site (I am currently running V1.0.113.0). This now takes you to the Microsoft App store. When installed, this version reports that the drivers are out of date and to check Windows Updates. Updates are all currently up to date.
I followed the link suggested by @JOcean and it reports that the Waves Maxx Audio Pro Windows 10 64-bit is incompatible (Strange, as the laptop was bought with Windows 10). The Realtek drivers I currently have are later than yours. I probably updated them trying to fix this issue. It all worked fine under Windows 10 and I used to get a pop up similar to yours.
How do you disable front panel jack detection in Windows 10 if the Realtek Audio Control application won't install from the Microsoft Store? I want my speakers and my headset to simultaneously output the same audio stream no matter which is plugged in.
After numerous searches online, I initially could not find a way to have both my speakers (plugged into the back audio port of my motherboard) and my headset (plugged into the front panel audio port of my case) output the same sound stream simultaneously. Plugging in my headset would mute my speakers. However, I wanted my speakers and my headphones to work at the same time.
Since I have a dual-boot setup for Windows 7 and Windows 10, I booted into Windows 7 and used Process Monitor to capture the actual registry key change that occurs when you disable front panel jack detection using the Realtek HD Audio Manager application that is included with the drivers in Windows 7.
Unfortunately, in Windows 10, Microsoft decided that drivers should be slimmed down, so Realtek's drivers were changed to not include the Realtek HD Audio Manager software. Instead, you're supposed to download and install the Realtek Audio Control application from the Microsoft Store to get the functionality that was once included by default in the driver package (known as Realtek HD Audio Manager in previous versions of Windows). But, no matter what I tried, I could not get Realtek Audio Control to install in Windows 10 Version 2004.
Here is a registry key export file you can import (but it may not work for you unless you adjust the 000* entries to match where your Drv8186_DevType sub folder entries are in the Settings folder for each 000* entry):
This is a disaster, and I hope Microsoft and Realtek will get their stuff together. The fact I had to do all of this work to change one simple setting is ridiculous. Realtek HD Audio Manager should be packaged with the driver like it used to be in Windows 7. Then, things are as easy as this:
This is more a compromise rather than a solution but if you have trouble installing Realtek Audio Control from MS Store (as I did), Realtek HD Audio Driver version R2.81 (R2.82 is the latest but as pointed out in the solution above, the Audio Manager is not bundled) is bundled with Realtek HD Audio Manager where you can quickly toggle the front panel detection off via the GUI.
i know its a big ask but is there any way of updating this for the rear port pleaseI have a pioneer ddj flx-4 that uses WASAPI. If there is nothing connected to the audio port after you first plug in the FLX-4 it breaks WASAPI forever, and we have to reset the computer.
I have a headphone jack with a broken sensor. The headphones are normally supposed to turn on when they're plugged in. Because the jack is broken, however, my computer only detects that my headphones are plugged in when I push or tilt the plug, and that's the only time I can get sound out of them. Therefore I'd like to control this feature manually and force the sound to come out of my headphones all the time.
Realtek's HD Audio Manager has a "Disable Front Panel Jack Detection" option which gives this functionality, but Realtek's skin for Dell motherboards, which my computer has, does not include this option.
So I was thinking: Perhaps this Dell skin is only cosmetic. If I could find out which registry key is changed when someone else checks the "Disable Front Panel Jack Detection" box in their Realtek Audio Manager, I could edit that same key on my computer, and achieve the same functionality.
I have a (5 years old) Dell (inspiron 15 3542) laptop with an audio jack 3.5 for headphones and windows 10a and "realtek high definition audio" driver. My original problem was that I use my headphones a lot, so much that my previous laptop audio jack 3.5 output stopped working after a while.
I tried finding a manually way for changing sound to be from my headphones instead of my laptop's speakers.I had searched all over the internet for hours but nothing. This is because Realtek consider the computer's speakers and headphones as exactly the same device.
Just uninstall (and DO NOT reinstall) "realtek high definition audio" driver from the "Device Manager" list of windows 10. Then restart computer.Windows 10 will find out that there is a missing driver and will install a default driver of it's own that works great and separate computer's speakers and headphones to 2 different devices.
Buy a splitter (of audio jack 3.5 cable) and external speakers. connect the speakers and headphones to the splitter and you are good to have audio in both of then at the same time. Do you want stopping one of them (speakers or headphones), just click an turn it off.
My Precision 5520 is not detecting any jack inputs. When I plug in my headphones there is no popup prompting whether I've just plugged something in, and the audio continues to play through the laptop speakers.
Here's the catch. If I restart my laptop and if the headphone is plugged in at the moment the laptop starts, it would play the audio through the headphone. But if I unplug the headphones it would go back the way it was and cannot detect further headphones being plugged in.
Have you tried rolling back to a previous version of the audio driver?
Have you tried installing Realtek's own version of the driver?
