P2P MODELS OPEN POSITION
Postdoctoral position in Social Research
At P2P Models, we are looking for a postdoc researcher to lead social research of Collaborative Economy communities which may enable the development of software prototypes grounded on social theory. P2P Models is a 5-year (2018-2022) EU-funded (1.5M€) interdisciplinary research project based at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain), with Principal Investigator and advisors from the Berkman Klein Center (Harvard University). The project follows an action research approach which aims to maximize its social impact, in line with our values.
As a postdoc researcher you will:
- Have expertise in both qualitative (e.g. interviews) and quantitative (e.g. data analysis, clustering) methods to carry out social research of Collaborative Economy communities. This will serve to better understand their governance and economic models, and to guide the development of software to improve their internal processes.
- Build on social theory and provide recommendations: exploring the limits of technical governance, the effects of different models of value distribution, and the extent to which communities can be democratically organised minimizing oligarchic structures.
- Formulate hypotheses and guide prototypes coordinating with our multidisciplinary team: transforming identified needs and models into potential solutions using decentralised technical tools, in order to maximise the project impact.

Minimum requirements to apply
- PhD (completed or planning to be submitted in less than a year), preferably in Social Sciences (e.g. Sociology, Economics, Political Science) although interdisciplinary profiles are welcome, e.g. including Data Science, Gender Studies or Mathematics
- Strong interest in some of these areas: sociology of organisations, sociology or economics of innovation, science and technology studies, peer production, social movements, (online) communities, emerging business models, open knowledge, media studies, collaborative economy, (digital) commons, algorithmic governance and/or Internet and politics
- Fluency in English
- Be based in Madrid (Spain) and available for face to face meetings once a week
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, autonomy, critical thinking
Bonus points for any combination of these
- Interest/experience in social movements, activism, commons-oriented initiatives, co-ops, and/or open collaborative communities
- Experience in large research projects and/or multidisciplinary environments
- Experience in triangulation and multi-method approaches
- Experience with the digital / Internet / technical world
- Experience in Gender Studies, feminist collectives, or related background
- Experience in publishing quality research
- Fluency in Spanish
- Teamwork and interpersonal skills, including collaboration, empathy and adaptation.
- Underrepresented demographics to increase the team diversity.
Salary
26-30K€ (gross salary year), for 0-3 years of postdoctoral experience. For more experienced profiles, salary may surpass the mentioned range
