Are you using ICT to teach in an interesting way? Are you planning to use ICT to create a engaging, project based learning opportunity for your learners?

In 2009 Microsoft will again be running the Innovative Teachers Awards. This event recognises teachers who make innovative use of ICT to enhance teaching and learning. There are great prizes to be won (including laptops, mobile phones, interactive whiteboards etc.) as well as an opportunity to represent South Africa at the Pan-African and/or Worldwide Innovative Teachers Awards. The event also provides a great forum for innovative teachers to network and share ideas.

To enter, simply describe your project by downloading and completing the presentation template.

Please note that the closing date for entries is Monday 25 May 2009 – this is earlier than in previous years, so start planning your innovative project now so that you will be ready to implement it as soon as the new school year starts.

If you would like some inspiration, click here to browse through the online Innovation course. This course gives some guidance for thinking outside of the box and includes some examples of previous projects.

If you would like to attend a face-to-face Innovation workshop, please write to me...@schoolnet.org.za with Innovation Workshop in the subject line.

These workshops are aimed at teachers who already have good ICT skills, and who are using ICT with their learners, but who would like some guidance around how to put together an innovative project  to submit for the 2009 Microsoft Innovative Teachers Awards. Face-to-face Innovate Workshops are being planned for March 2009 in the following metropolitan areas:

  • Johannesburg and Pretoria - Gauteng
  • Hilton/Pietermaritzburg and Durban – KwaZulu Natal
  • East London – Eastern Cape
  • Cape Town – Western Cape
  • Kimberley – Northern Cape
  • Polokwane – Limpopo
  • Bloemfontein – Free State

Please state which workshop you would like to attend and give a reason why you would like to be included. If you live in another metropolitan area and you would like to attend an Innovate Workshop, please also send in your details. If there is sufficient interest in other cities additional workshops may be arranged.

We look forward to receiving your entry and finding out more about your innovative teaching!

If you would like more information about the Microsoft Innovative Teachers Awards, please contact Megan Rademeyer – me...@schoolnet.org.za or 011 403 5777.
