Dear Creativity Community,
Are collective Buffalo heart is broken over the tragic incident that took place this last weekend.
As I drove to campus on Monday morning, I was reflecting on Saturday’s event and was filled with great sadness. It is hard for my mind to grasp that such hate can exist. As a trained creative problem solver, my mind naturally pondered what I (or we as a creativity community) might do to spread more love and peace in this world.
Monday was also Bea Parnes, wife of our late founding faculty member Dr. Sidney Parnes, 100th birthday.
Both the tragedy and Bea’s birthday got me thinking about what this department stands for, such principles as deferral of judgment, the use of affirmative judgment, openness to novelty, interest in diverse opinions, approaches, and backgrounds.
So, my conclusion, for now, if there were more creativity in the world…there would be more peace, love, and inclusivity. Let’s all continue to live the principles we profess and ignite creativity around the world, from our homes, into our communities, and across the globe.
Best wishes to you all. And to the families and loved ones directly affected by Saturday’s tragedy.
