Dear Farm to School Enthusiasts:
I hope the 2016 school year is off to a great start. To kick off Farm to School activities, we are offering a new initiative entitled “Farm to School…to Market.” This initiative will give classroom teachers the opportunity to bring a little of the farmers market to their students. Recipients will receive $30 to purchase locally grown produce from a farmers market to take back to the classroom and incorporate into an educational lesson. Along with these funds, awardees will receive classroom supplies (books or a farmers market math bulletin board set).
Iowa is at the heart of harvest now but it won’t last long. The deadline to apply for this opportunity is September 9, 2016. Due to limited funds only 40 classrooms will be approved. To try to reach as many markets and students as possible, no more than 3 classrooms per school will be approved.
Please share this information with others in your school or community.
If you have questions about this initiative or any other Farm to School activity, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Tammy Stotts
