Field to Family works to create a more local, healthy and sustainable community food system in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids (IC/CR) foodshed. We envision a region where people eat with the seasons, where farmers make a living, and our ecosystem is diverse, abundant, and healthy.

Title: Program Associate  


Basic Function:

The Program Associate will provide staff support for the following programs: Farm to School (45%), Farm Stands (45%) and Local Food Finder (10%) 20 hours a week from late April -late Oct. 2018.


Reports to: Field to Family (F2F) Director


Duties & Responsibilities:

This position will provide staff support to meet the 2018 program goals of Field to Family’s workplan. Responsibilities include providing direct support to school gardens, setting up, attending and taking down Field to Family's farm stands, recruiting volunteers, marketing and promotion, maintaining relevant community relationships, transporting equipment, creating informational handouts and working with professional chefs and caterers to provide seasonal food samples, among other related responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.


In addition, this position serves as a Field to Family Team Member, requiring the following:

    1. Self-motivation, efficient and effective and responsible to execute the mission of F2F, to foster a more local and sustainable food system serving the IC/ CR foodshed.

    2. Leverage, coordinate and manage volunteer and non-volunteer human resources to accomplish necessary tasks, as necessary.

    3. Receive and follow instructions from F2F Executive Director in regard to priorities.

    4. Meet all income and expense budgetary expectations as established in the approved 2018 budget.

    5. Report work progress to the F2F Executive Director on a weekly basis.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education related to Agriculture, Biology, Nutrition, Education or closely related field. Experience relevant to the role of the position.

  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read and write proficiently) in English.

  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.

  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

  • Ability to transport/move supplies and equipment, climb stairs with or without accommodation.

  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.

  • Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Flexibility to work independently, with minimal supervision, as well as collaborate with others in a team setting

  • Ability to lift 40-50 lbs.

  • Valid driver’s license required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience with commercial horticulture, farming or gardening operations.

  • Knowledge of Farm to School programs.

  • Experience working with farmers and/or with schools, educating children in multiple settings, adapting and developing curriculum.

  • Experience with food preservation, ServSafe certification, or food preparation/food demonstration knowledge

  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively with groups, committees, community and funding partners.

  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written and visual channels using traditional methods and educational tools, as well as electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.).

  • Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the director.

  • Fluency in Spanish.

Compensation:

$13.00-$16.50 per hour commensurate with experience.
