Good morning, soilmates -- below is a message from Tammy at IDALS, plus two attachments, regarding more school garden resources that I wanted to make sure you all were aware of.

Also, for those of you who contacted me about seeds from Earl May in IC, Paul Rost, the manager there, wanted me to pass along that he has them ready for you to pick up at the store (1901 Lower Muscatine).

p.s. I'm working with more & more schools in the corridor on food waste collection for compost, so please don't hesitate to connect with me on that if you'd like to pursue those efforts at your kitchen or cafeteria ... or both!

Dear Farm to School and Garden Enthusiasts:

We have a GREAT opportunity for you to help your school get engaged in the Farm to School Program.  Attached is the 2015 A Garden is the Way to Grow letter and application.  This year’s focus is from “Seed to Harvest.”  Included in the garden supplies is a Growease Seed Starter Success Kit, to help assure that you plant seeds of success.  We have moved the dates up just a bit to give you time to start those seeds that will hopefully lead to a bountiful harvest.

In addition to the great tools that will help you start or expand your school garden is the opportunity to receive a 25% discount through Gardeners Supply Company.  Any school purchasing garden supplies, regardless of your involvement in any of the Farm to School initiatives, can take advantage of this great opportunity.  More information can be found in the attached letter.

Lastly, if you have considered starting a garden but aren’t sure how to tie the Iowa Core Standards into this project, join the Iowa Department of Education’s Team Nutrition for a webinar on Tuesday, March 17th at 3:30.  This one-hour webinar is entitled “Engaging Your Entire School in the Garden,” and will show you how to make the school garden become part of the entire school learning process.   Garden sub-grants will also be offered.  To learn more information contact, Patti Delger at patti....@iowa.gov or follow this link to register:  https://www.zoom.us/webinar/register/32c14b874c2eb0007c24e00bf0acd2b8 .

Please note the deadline for the A Garden is the Way to Grow initiative is March 3, 2015 and supplies are limited.
