Don't know if you're aware, but a large amount of work went into something like this a couple of years ago - see

OpenPilot and built a dev board on their Revo platform which should still be around the lab, as should a couple CopterControls which didn't have enough grunt to run an IMS / autopilot.
There's also a PandaBoard or two which were used for development and onboard data processing, as well as various other bits of kit including a Kinect-like time-of-flight camera and such. A lot should still be kicking around the lab, including the frames we used to test and develop!
