This is crazy. I always see myself as disabled when that is simply not true.
I've tried changing the relevant options back and forth to no avail. All my
contacts also show up as disabled, when at the same time we can see our
online status fine through ICQs white pages where they check internally.

I've been digging into this little problem and what do I find? People
started complaining about this in 1998. (Just check out the developers forum
at the ICQ site.) That thread slowly continued until 1999. It's the year
2000, but where are the working indicators? I WAS PROMISED WORKING
INDICATORS! I don't see ANY WORKING INDICATORS!

Why?

Why?

Why?

Simple.

These AOL goons could care less about this stuff, and it seems that if we
want something to happen, it will require some form of coersion. From what
I've read, their tech support is beyond hopeless, so we need a more direct
line of communication. (Hopefully nobody will have to point a shotgun in
their general direction. ;-)

Does anybody know someone who did work on the Online.dll module? Or does
anybody know someone who knows someone? We have to take a stand if we ever
hope to resolve this.

I'm with you on that one.

I have a web page with about 20 people's status indicators on it and they
are all indicator disabled except when they are online and even then it's
only about 50% of the time they appear as Online.

Let's be serious here. What good is something -- why bother providing it --
if it doesn't work? They could at least be honest and just get rid of the
lemon.

That would piss off even more people unfortunately. It's not good
business. From what I understand the problem is a server overload, not a
problem with the indicator itself. Once they upgrade their servers it
will be fixed, until the influx of users causes it to go out again.

I think people are more pissed that something still doesn't work right after
all this time.

And how could this be a server overload? Their own internal stuff (not to
mention ICQ itself) reports this correctly every time. Even if it was,
they've had a lot of time to work something out that wouldn't continue to
cause or recur this problem up to today.

Online/offline status is core functionality for an instant messenger and
anything related to it. I think they're just being full of it.
