Hi everyone, I got a problem when I'm trying to run ICQ. 2 nights before it
was still fine. However when I try to run it yesterday, it crashes before
the contact list can load up. I know it is the database problem, so I run
the DBConverter. I've tried all options, however it still doesn't work.
The only way I can make it work is to delete the old database and
re-register with a new one. But the old one is with me for more than 2
years, having 141 users. I don't want to lose anyone of them. So, do I
have any way to recover the old database?

I'm using Traditional Chinese Windows 98 2nd edition. My name is Patrick,
ICQ UIN 1050229. email: tinlo...@yahoo.com. Thanks for your concerning.

i think i'm having the same problem.
when icq begins to load i get this error 'ICQ caused an invalid page fault
in
module MSVCRT.DLL'
i know its in the database cos i tried to reinstall and that went fine but
as soon as i asked it to use the old database it started crashing again
i have 2000a on a win95 system
i have a feeling that it happened cos my internet disconnected whilst icq
was still running but it handles that normally
please someone have the answer
Tom

Take a look at the bottom of http://help.icqx.com/faq/crash.html -
there's an experimental procedure you can attempt.

I don't work for ICQ (or at least I don't get paid for it =)

yeah i tried the 'resu' thing but to no avail, when i copied the files to a
newly installed version, it crashed again
i just had to resort to going throught the DAT file by hand and finding my
old contacts

i'l lalways remember to backup from now on though
