DDI Adoption Metrics – Second Data Collection Round Completed

Hi,

Today I completed the second round of data collection for the short project “DDI Adoption Metrics”, funded by KonsortSWD – NFDI4Society (https://www.konsortswd.de/en/). The project aims to count available DDI records that can be harvested from OAI-PMH endpoints listed on re3data.org. You can access the data and a summary of the results here: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.16411013 

If your research data repository uses DDI, feel free to check whether your institution is included. If not, consider updating your entry on re3data.org – they offer a simple update form.

For each repository providing DDI metadata via OAI-PMH, the dataset includes the number of records available by DDI standard and the ID of an example record. I’d appreciate any feedback you might have.

Key findings from this round:

• 92 of 290 repositories reporting DDI usage also publish DDI metadata via OAI-PMH.
• These repositories provide a total of 749,271 DDI metadata records:
• 703,393 in DDI-Codebook 2.5
• 16,161 in DDI-Lifecycle 3.1
• 23,712 in DDI-Lifecycle 3.2
• 6,005 in DDI-Lifecycle 3.3
• Dataverse instances account for 612,511 of the DDI-Codebook records.

A third and final data collection round is planned for September.

If you're interested in publishing DDI metadata via OAI-PMH and other methods, there are plans to form a working group on this topic. I’d be happy to add you to the list of interested participants.
