Dear Wendy and all,

One of my colleagues asked me if the DDI has published a CV that could be used to identify the software application used for capturing survey data (e.g., “Survey Solutions Version 25.04”).

Are you aware of a CV, by the DDI or other organization, that would provide such a list of software applications?

Best,

                Olivier

Olivier,
Sanda and the CV group could probably give you information on whether they are currently working on this or if it's on a list of upcoming work, but I don't see anything right now. I tried to locate a list and will continue to dig a bit on this. My guess is that those that are available are used within specific communities that may use a known set of tested softwares.

It would be nice if some of the DDI members who do survey work particularly in the area of large repeated survey work and official statistics could respond here. I would guess that a larger list could be difficult to maintain due to the dynamic nature of software development especially with the advent of AI. It may be something where creating CV's of known, tested softwares could be a focus.

All the best
Wendy

Hi, Olivier, Wendy and all.
We have a DDI CV for software, please see
The CV name is Software Package.
It's kind of old, but I would have reservations going back to edit it.
There's just too much software out there to be able to capture it all.
Do let me know what you think about this CV, though.
Thanks,
Sanda.

Just to follow up on my previous message.
The DDI CV does not cover software for capturing data.

I agree with Wendy, due to the dynamic nature and churn of software, perhaps a better approach might be to have a reference to the specific software. If that is not currently supported in the schema perhaps that might be a useful addition.

Controlled vocabularies (expressed as concept or concept type in Codebook) can contain any term whether from a controlled vocabulary or not. If this is for the users supported by the world bank, Olivier, you may want to develop on and suggest that the DDI support it by publishing it. I could have a title and description that relates to its specific application group. That is if you don't want to support publishing it yourselves.

Just one comment regarding publishing - if such a list were put together, the CVG may consider publishing it.
It might be useful to CESSDA organizations as well?
Sanda.

Many thanks to you, Wendy, and to all who responded.

I will discuss the “data entry software application CV” with my colleague and get back to you (but not before taking some leave).

@Wendy: I will keep what you wrote below in mind. We may soon start a program to support our client countries in their use of our new Metadata Editor application to document their survey datasets. Many have asked for solution to replace the Nesstar Publisher. I plan to include some CVs in the recommended metadata templates we will provide them with. Ideally, these CVs should be seen as public goods, not just WB recommendations.
