Is it possible to use font in application with names/tags but not unicode or copy/paste?

Per title. Just get this idea from Google's material icon. While I use the material icon in sketch app, I could type text like a 'block' and change the font family to material icon and it will go to block icon. But for the icon fonts I created, I could only use it by Unicode. Could anyone help me with this? Thanks!

Yes, you can do that using ligatures. Press the "fi" button in the toolbar of the "Generate Font" tab to enable ligatures. Learn more here: https://icomoon.io/#docs/ligatures
