Aslam-o-Alikum, I attended shura conuncil meeting yesterday and there was a move passed to help Muslim incarcerated in jails with Halal foods, Providing Chaplin services, and Islamic material by getting fixed amount of money from each masjid from their zakat fund. This will be a central process who will cover I think Suthern california only (not sure).
Imam Abdul Hafiz who has worked as Muslim Chaplin in Jails for 25 years is going to lead this service under shura council umbrella. I always encourage all committees to work with some centralize process and existing process that other masjids and organization can easily integrate into and there a greater benefit of that to our muslim community.
Feel free to contact Shura Council at
714-239-6473. I could not find more detail yet about this program on their website but you can call in get more details. So please always get help and help Imam Abdul Hafiz to enhance this program with whatever effort you can make it for this cause.
One thing I found out yesterday that There are hundreds of muslim brothers and sisters in suthern california / orange county jails who are in need of Halal food and dawah. Please provide you innovative ideas to enhance and spread this work.
Again it is always good idea to work in centralization format. So whenever you have such request please keep in loop your committee and also contact Imam Abdul Hafiz from shura council.
Wsalam

Wa'aliykum a'salam,
I hope you are well inshAllah. Al'hamdulillah, I'm really excited to hear there is interest to join this amazing program!
You can send the forms anytime you like. Regarding the orientation, it is specifically for volunteers who are committed to visit the prison at a minimum of four times a year (once every three months) and have some level of volunteer experience.
Therefore I encourage you to first talk to those volunteers who are interested and see what their commitment level is.
What you can do is have them fill out this survey and then we can recommend the orientation training based on their results:
IIOC Prison Outreach SurveyLet me know if you have any questions bro.

Thanks for the info.
We had a few people interested in going to the orientation. Is it still on for Nov. 17?
If so can we still send you the form today?

Wa aliykum a'salam brother Ahmed,
InshAllah I hope all is well with you brother. I spoke with the chaplain at the facility and he says that you can still get access without attending the training. What they can do is issue you a temporary pass so you can visit a few times. Afterwards if you are still interested to continuing volunteering then inshAllah you can attend the next orientation training (which would be sometime early next year).
Feel free to send the form whenever you are done filing it out so we can get started inshAllah.
Salam,
Amin
