I had a request for printing a spoon holder today.
There is a very elegant solution on the market Maddak SP Ableware

Build-up handle - US 8,844,099 B2

Has anybody had luck in 3D printing this mechanism?
Thanks for any insights Rune

Hi @Rune Thorsen,

Not this one in particular, I didn’t ever know such solution and that a patent was existing, I created some time ago a similar solution for my daughter in order to be able to easily use spoon, knife and other utensils with her myoelectric hand, I am adding a sample picture of the holder.

It is a really simple solution (it took five minutes to design it in Fusion360), it is basically a cylinder with a rectangular cut in the middle to allow the utensil insertion, I printed it in TPU, this allows to better adapt the solution to the utensil and to the user’s needs: selecting a material with different shore and choosing different infills and infill densities it is possible to obtain different softness of the holder.
