The first World Youth Meeting will be hosted in Puglia-Italy from January 19th to 21st 2010 to launch the program, confront perspectives on sustainable human development, set a common agenda of action, share knowledge and start up new initiatives. |

NMC (from the Esperanto, Ni, mondlokaj civitanoj – We, global-local citizens) – promotes sustainable development and the participation of young people in decisions making at both global and local levels. Its field of action is the whole world, with a particular focus on cities. NMC's time frame extends to 2020. NMC adopts the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Millennium Development Goals and the Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization as its framework of frameworks. NMC establishes and develops a global-local environment where young people, policy makers, international organizations, private sector, civil society, media can collaborate to effectively speed up global change towards sustainability while increasing youth participation and influence in decision making processes. NMC is the first attempt to gather these different actors in the pursuit of common goals. The program is promoted by the Puglia Region, the Italian Ministry of Youth and the Italian National Agency for Youth. More than 30 organizations have contributed to its conception, among which the Inter-American Bank of Development, the International Labor Organization, the UNESCO, the UN-HABITAT, the MDG Campaign, the World Bank, the International Alliance of Cooperatives and the UCLG (United cities and local governments). NMC is open to all young people who recognize themselves or their organizations at least in one of these characteristics:

Target group |
500 youth delegates from 90 countries and more than a 1.000 youth participants will gather with thought leaders from a range of cultural backgrounds and experience representing government, politic, science and culture, international organizations, media, civil society and private sector. Young participants will be selected among those that will have posted their candidature on this website. The Meeting will revolve around three keynote lectures, one for each of the meeting days and about 15 thematic workshops. The lectures will address three main topics for the Meeting: “Perspectives and challenges for democracy in a world of global cities”, “Environmental sustainability as precondition for human development” and “The new frontier for social and economic development after the global finance crisis”. The workshops will focus on global issues for development and the potential of tackling them at local level. |

Organization will cover costs for travel, hospitality, food and visa fees to all the delegates. |

Teaser : Following the European Council decision of the 24th November 2009, 2011 will be the European Year of Voluntary Activities Promoting Active Citizenship. The overall purpose of the European Year shall be to encourage and support — notably through the exchange of experience and good practices — the efforts of the Community, the Member States, local and regional authorities to create the conditions for civil society conducive to volunteering in the European Union (EU) and to increase the visibility of voluntary activities in the EU. |

The objectives of the European Year shall be to: · work towards an enabling environment for volunteering in the EU in order to anchor volunteering as part of promoting civic participation and people-to-people activities in an EU context and address existing obstacles to voluntary activities, where appropriate and necessary; · empower organisers of voluntary activities to improve the quality of voluntary activities in order to facilitate voluntary activities and help organisers to implement new types of voluntary activities and to encourage networking, mobility, cooperation and synergies within civil society and between civil society and other sectors in an EU context; · recognise voluntary activities in order to encourage appropriate incentives for individuals, companies and volunteer-development organisations and gain recognition for volunteering at EU level and in the Member States by policymakers, civil society organisations, public institutions, the formal and non-formal education sector and employers for skills and competences developed through volunteering; · raise awareness of the value and importance of volunteering in order to raise general awareness of the importance of volunteering as an expression of civic participation which contributes to issues which are of common concern of all Member States, such as a harmonious societal development and social cohesion. |
