I'm a frustrated Orcad Capture user., The "Schematics" capture tool (originally designed by MicroSim and briefly carried along by Cadence) is no longer available so I must use Capture now. Has anyone figured out how to nest hierarchical blocks to various levels? By nest I mean place a symbol referencing a schematic within another symbol referencing a separate schematic within another symbol referencing yet another schematic etc etc... Some symbols reference a schematic with only other interconnected symbols. The actual detailed schematic may be at the 3rd or 4th level down.
In "Schematics" this was very simple to do. I had full circuits at 4 and 5 levels deep with nested symbols/schematics. Unfortunately, I no longer have access to that Schematics based platform. Capture is a cumbersome often frustrating tool that tries to do too much. Anyway, has anyone done the above? Cadence Orcad user guide only describes hierarchical port to one level of depth.
SIMetrix can read schematic files created by the PSpice 'Schematics' program. 'Schematics' is the original MicroSim schematic editor but is no longer supported. Current PSpice releases use Orcad Capture for schematic entry. SIMetrix is not able to read Orcad Capture schematics.
If you do not have PSpice on your system then you will need to create a PSPICE.INI file that contains the location of the PSpice symbol libraries. Note that PSpice schematics do not contain local copies of their symbols (unlike SIMetrix) so the symbol libraries are essential to perform any schematic translation. For information see the on-line help topic Schematic Editor >> PSpice Schematics Translation.
You can install PSpice symbol libraries in the same way as SIMetrix symbol libraries. This will make the symbols available for use with SIMetrix. Note that the schematic translator only uses symbols in the PSpice libraries specified using the procedure described above.

Documentation errataThe "Simulation Examples" chapter is not clear with regard to which ground symbol to use. Use the '0' symbol in \capture\library\pspice\source.olb. You can access this symbol after configuring this library in the Place Ground dialog box.

Q. Why can't I see the PSpice menu in Capture?A. To access the PSpice menu, you must be working on an "Analog or Mixed-Signal Design" project. Every design is associated with a project whose type determines the commands available for it (PCB, Analog, etc.). If the design is separated from its project file, Capture cannot tell the project type and creates a default PCB project for the design. If you create a new design by using the File menu and choosing New, Design, you will get a default PCB project. If you want to create an Analog or Mixed-Signal Design project you should use the Project creation wizard. (From the File menu, point to New and choose Project.)
