Hi.
I hope this forum is still active.
I have a question about h. 17: what is the meaning of Duke of Chou statement: "The superior man in accordance with this, when it is getting towards dark, enters his house and rests" in relation to the general meaning of the hexagrram?
Any suggestion is welcomed.

Here’s a little longer explanation
The original Chinese for hexagram 17 is this -
泽中有雷。随。君子以向晦入宴息
The quote means:
"泽" refers to a marsh or swamp in ancient China, and "雷" means thunder. The phrase means that there will be thunder in a marsh or swamp.
"随" (suí): This word means "follow" or "comply with."
"君子" refers to a person with moral integrity and manners. "向晦入" means to return home and rest before it gets dark. "宴息" refers to eating dinner and resting.
Translated into English, the quote means: There will be thunder in a marsh or swamp, and a person with moral integrity and manners should obey the natural order and return home to rest before it gets dark.
The hexagram represents the idea of following and going with the flow of the natural order of things. The quote you provided, "The superior man in accordance with this, when it is getting towards dark, enters his house and rests," could be interpreted as a metaphor for the importance of following the natural order and not going against it. Just as it is natural for thunder to occur in a marsh or swamp and it is not wise to try to stop it, it is important to follow the natural order of things in life and not try to resist or go against it. Instead, it is advisable to go with the flow and do what is right and in accordance with natural principles.
