Team,

Here's a link to the story reference last week in Internet Retailer
http://www.internetretailer.com/dailyNews.asp?id=28744

With the I-Card, web shoppers can forget multiple passwords, Equifax says

Equifax Inc., the credit information services company, has partnered with Parity Communications Inc., a provider of identity management software, to produce the I-Card, which is designed to let consumers identify themselves with a single click at multiple web sites.

The I-Card was designed to serve the dual purpose of making it easier for online consumers to store personal identification data in a single place, rather than maintain passwords and other data on multiple web sites, and removing the need for web site operators to store such information and run the risk of having it stolen by criminals, says Steve Ely, president of Equifax Personal Information Solutions.

Equifax, which maintains databases of consumer information on demographics, purchase and credit history, has patented technology for using such records to verify consumers identities. Working with software provider Parity Communications, it has developed the I-Card as tool used to verify a consumers identity before the consumer makes a purchase or conducts other activity subject to identity verification on participating web sites. An I-Card could be used, for example, to generate out-of-wallet questions from Equifax recordssuch as regarding a consumers former address or the make of the first car he ownedthat only the authentic consumer would be likely to know. The I-Card has not been designed to contain credit card account data.

The I-Card is designed so the information it uses to verify a consumers identify is encrypted and stored on a consumers own computer. By clicking an I-Card icon on participating web sites, the I-Card user sends a message to an Equifax web server that engages the Parity software to confirm the accuracy of the identification information.

Equifax is setting up a pilot project to test the I-Card with about 12 web sites, including retailers and other site operators, Ely says. It has also developed a proof-of-concept site at Watch-this.com, which requires visitors to verify that they are at least 18 years old. Visitors to the site can sign up for an I-Card that will use Equifax records to verify their age.

Equifax charges participating web sites a fee to access the personal records of each I-Card holder, Ely says. As consumers update their information, Equifax will charge additional fees, he adds.
