Last Friday in San Diego we had a lively meeting focusing mostly on our priorities for the rest of 2010. There was a general air of optimism that if we concentrate our energies, we'd soon have a very small number of very high visibility relying party websites that would showcase the unique abilities of Information Cards.

After all, as John Bradley said in the meeting, we have the other two legs of the stool. We already have high profile card issuers (e.g. Equifax, PayPal, CitiGroup, Acxiom, and lots more) (some of which are even FICAM certified by OIX). And we already have zillions of selectors installed (e.g. in every copy of Windows 7)  and good cross-platform support, with downloadable selector apps available for Mac, iPhone/iPad and others.

Adding a new, easy-to-use layer of security to the Internet is a massive project and takes years. But bit by bit we're getting there. We just need to remain focused on a few relying Websites that require verified claims/attributes involving higher-than-zero value & risk transactions. That's our sweet spot. And it's a place without a lot of competition.

All the best,
--Paul

Hi

Is this a role that Cloud service providers would play? If so there might
be great opportunity to harness that momentum.

I noticed in the recent DMTF specs for managing/interoperable Clouds,
there appeared to be relevant sections for this, e.g.:

"The cloud service provider should..

..provide identity services that permit customers to provision and manage
identities that can be authenticated and authorized to access cloud
services using standardized mechanisms.

..provide services that establish trust relationships between itself and
customers or other services providers using standardized techniques"

Regards,

Neil.

I really don't think that the cloud service should "provide services that establish trust relationships between it and customers or other services providers", this could lead to all sorts of bad behaviors and lack of openness.
