Hi. I discovered ICEsl... IT LOOKS REALLY interesting! I installed the stable version (The beta version installs in my system but when I open it it closes after 5 seconds with no error... win10 64b)

the stable version works ok but I have this single problem: the view of the model and the sliced model is SOOOO slow, too much. It is so slow that is becomeing the main reason I have stoped useing it :(

I wanna make a final try and ask you if you know some specific configuration or something that can help me on this issue:
My system is a win10 laptop, 6 gb ram, video card intel HD 5500 1GB ram, opengl 4.4
I have already read that Icesl has high requirements but I can believe that with my system I cant run it... I perfectly run softwares like solidworks, solidworks simulation, 3d games, etc
Thanks in advance

Martin

Hi Martin,

Sorry you are experiencing these issues. Let's try to identify the problem! We are running IceSL on laptops with Intel HD cards regularly without trouble, so it should be working.
A few things to try:
1) Please make sure your Intel HD drivers are up-to-date. This can have a big impact especially on the 3d view..
2) Is the slow down on all models or only the most complex ones? Maybe can you send us a link to one model that is problematic?
4) Did you try to run icesl-forge? Any difference?
5) Have you tried with the laptop plugged/unplugged (in the unlikely event this is due to power saving).

Thanks -
Best regards,
Sylvain

Hi Martin.

The beta version not working worries me a bit. Can you please reinstall it, run IceSL-slicer and send me the output of the console window (the window with only text on black background) before it exits abnormally?

Hi. Thanks for you answers. I will answer each one of your questions:
1.- Yes, drivers are updated.
2.- All models. But actually I have not loaded any complex model yet. I have tried with a simple cilinder, and a calibration square
4.- Icesl-forge do the same
5.- I tried Plugged, and made sure too that processor and GPU are working at max power settings

Hi. Problem is that beta Ice-sl closes without even giving me the time to see the console window

Also: just beta icesl-slicer  closes, beta icesl-forge works "ok" (still has the super slow render problem)

Martin, this is indeed *very* bizarre. Is it possible for you record the screen while you open slicer to try to capture the console window?
For us it is very important to see the debugging information displayed there.

Thank you for your time and feedback!

Salim.

Hi Martin,
Just open a command prompt (under Explorer, right-click the IceSL folder where your executable is, and select 'Open Powershell here', then type-in 'cmd' to launch the classic shell), and run:

icesl-slicer.exe > log.txt 2>&1

The system won't open a new console when you already are in a command prompt. The line above will redirect the output to a file.

Hi again :)
I have solved the icesl-slicer issue: now I can use the stable version. The problem seemed to be the video drivers, I uninstalled them and reintalled them and now the 3d rendering works like a charm.

But the beta version still closes.

I have been looking into the posibilities... NICE ONES! still have to look deeper, but this slicer hace really nice features. One strange thing... I can rotate an stl object useing the meny, but rotation is limited, I cant rotate the object for example 45 degrees? My test object was a 20 cms long object, my deb is 20 cms long. I cant print that unless I rotate the object in a diagonal position, but I cant find the way t do it in the slicer?

Hi Martin. Indeed the rotation UI in IceSL-slicer is aimed towards a fast visualization/print. If you want to have more control over how objects are positioned, combined, scaled, etc., you'll have to go mano-a-mano with a lua script and load it as you'd load a model.

Try saving the following into a .lua file and load it in IceSL-slicer (or you can directly write it on IceSL-forge):

mesh = load('path_to_your_model.stl')
mesh_rotated = rotate(dx, dy, dz) * mesh
emit(mesh_rotated)

There is also the option in IceSL-forge to drag and drop the stl file into the editor and start from there.

Hope this helps.

Hi Martin,

It is really great IceSL now runs normally! I was a bit worried this would be a problem in the new drivers.
I see Salim already answered regarding rotations. We will revise the UI at some point, but for now scripting will give you the most control.

Best,
Sylvain
