to IceSL
Hi all.

In the last few months we've been working hard to make IceSL opengl core-profile compliant. This entails better stability and performance, but the main drive behind this decision is the linux driver for the Intel HD graphics family of video cards. As some people in the forum have read before, IceSL uses a relatively new version of OpenGL (i.e., 4.3) which is frequently supported by Intel on Linux for their graphics cards. This support however is only on core context (i.e. a core set of OpenGL functions) and IceSL, up until version 2.1.13, used a compatibility context (i.e. core functionality plus legacy support of deprecated functions from older OpenGL versions).

Supporting Intel graphics cards is a high priority for us due to their widespread use (Steam lists one of them as the most used video card second only to NVidia and used by  ~7% of their market!). As you can imagine, the transition from compatibility mode to core mode is not trivial and testing it is more complex than usual due to errors only being triggered at runtime (with a lot of debug code in-between). Fortunately, we have now completed this transition and produced a build (version 2.2-beta) that we believe is stable enough, you can download it from here:

We encourage our Linux users that have had trouble in past running IceSL to download and try the 2.2-beta build. As we're still a small (but passionate) developing team, some bugs might have slipped passed our eyes, hopefully none. If you encounter anything abnormal, do contact us through here!

Yours,
Salim Perchy

Dear all.

After some feedback and bug reports, we have improved compatibility with OpenGL on linux, especially with intel and nouveau drivers. Every linux user having trouble starting/running IceSL, please head to the download page and try the latest beta:

Thank you,
Salim Perchy
