[IceBoating] Quaboag Tue, 2/5/19

I stopped by yesterday to look at Quaboag. The ice was about 60% wet (perhaps 1/8" of standing water) and about 40% still covered by melting-and-mostly-saturated snow. I didn't try walking out on it because (1) I was alone, and (2) the ice that was at the ramp was punky, and cracked when I even put a little pressure on it. I'm pretty sure that in the next couple of days, with rain and above-freezing temps, that the surface will end up completely wetted out... but will the underlying ice survive? Even if it does, Friday, when the temps drop enough to freeze things, is forecast to be pretty windy, so I anticipate ragged/rippled  ice at best. Sigh.

Thanks for the update John..Bob S and Doug K found some wind Thursday after lunch and sailed Quaboag..exept for the usual ice spray off the front runner..Boats moved right along..Trust in M.N....She can get the Zamboni going pretty good...Ice was 8" and solid.Thursday!!!!

If anyone knows current conditions on Quabog, I'm interested. I can't sail tomorrow (Sunday) because of prior plans, but I'm game to go Monday if there's sailable ice.
