I took a drive around my extended neighborhood.
1. Watuppa, in Fall River, has ice around the edges, but open water in the middle.
2. Mashpee Pond, on the Cape, is completely open water, with enough wind to keep much ice from forming, at least this afternoon. Given the forecast, I'm not optimistic that it'll ever lock in.
3. Long Pond, in Freetown, MA, was frozen over, at least in the area close to the launch point (a bay extending from Hemlock Point about ENE to just north of the boat ramp at the S end of Milldboro Road), and as far out as I could see standing at the ramp. On the other hand, right at the ramp, the ice was just about 1" thick (measured by standing on shore, or on the sides of the ramp, drilling, and then measuring with a hooked wire to be sure). Forecast is for light winds and sub-freezing weather for much of the next few days, so maybe we'll have something worth talking about. The again, Wed's "high near 41" may screw it all up. :(
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but at least others know where not to look.
