Do you use Google? Do you use it in the classroom? If so, How?

I use Google for my personal needs whenever I cannot find information
the "traditional" way through traditional sources. By traditional
way, I mean information (printed or electronic) I cannot locate
through our library databases. Google is also very useful when I need
to locate current information. In the classroom, our reference
librarians and I discuss "googling" information online: how to do it
effectively and productively. Through Google, we discuss source
reliability, credibility, revelance, and currency at length when my
students work on source-based writing.

I have used www.metacrawler.com for almost 10 years. It has the
advantage of searching multiple search engines including google and
coolating the results for me. Unfortuantely, google has become
synonymous with a web search and many students do not realize that
there are many different search engines to try.

When I'm doing a serious research paper, I do not google my topic,
mostly because the information I find there is not normally peer
reviewed articles. But, if it's not as serious of a paper, I will use
google and have found it to be very useful.

Yes, There are many other good search engines and some with specific
tools and databases that better help you complete a search. However
Google is the current favorite because of it's searching power. So
far no one can keep up. Many of those other engines also use Google.
