ICAT 4.2.0 is now available.

Please check the installation documentation before you start as a number of things have changed. In particular:
  • you will need to install suitable authentication plugins as well as ICAT itself
  • you will need a recent version of JAX-WS; in the case of the GlassFish container you will need at least version 3.1.2.
  • there are new and changed property files
If you have problems installing, which are not addressed by the documentation, please let us know.

This mail is being sent both to the main icat list and to the developers' list as I am not sure that all developers are on the main list.

A bug has been found in this release - as described at http://www.icatproject.org/index.php/Documentation_for_current_release#Issues_with_this_release I will not produce a 4.2.1 version yet unless this issue is affecting people, but will wait a week or two for any further bugs to be reported and fixed.

Hello Steve,

regarding the installation of 4.2, if I wish to start from the empty db schema, how can I do that?
(Also, user creation is the same as in 4.0? http://code.google.com/p/icatproject/source/browse/ops/icat40/orainit)

Thanks, best,

           Milan

This is explained in the instructions - where it says "The database
schema is almost identical to that used for ICAT 4.1 (the only
difference is that some text columns are wider) so if you already have
a 4.1 database installed there is no need to start with an empty
schema." If you do have an empty schema then there is nothing extra to
do.

The instructions I have provided are self contained - nothing else
should be needed. Please do not use any old scripts or procedures.

Two more "small" bugs have turned up in ICAT 4.2.0. They are all described in http://www.icatproject.org/index.php/Documentation_for_current_release#Issues_with_this_release I plan to produce a bug fix release early next week. This will be 4.2.1; installing it on top of 4.2.0 will only require removing the old ear file and deploying the new one.
