Bad news. COGFA voted 7-3 to keep Tamms open. It is a recommendation, not a binding vote. Please re-commit to helping close Tamms. Contact your legislators right now and ask them to push for closure.

Representative Elaine Nekritz moved to close Tamms and was seconded by Senator Donne Trotter. Senator Jeff Schoenberg also voted to close, but all
other COGFA members present voted to keep it open. Representative Al Riley was absent.
COGFA agreed with the plan to close an office of the Department of Children and Family Services in Skokie. But it voted down the Quinn administration’s closure plans for Tamms, Dwight Correctional Center, the Illinois Youth Center at Joliet, two adult transitional correctional centers in Chicago and Joliet and the Murray Center for the Developmentally Disabled at Centralia.
Here's an article on Tamms that came out just before the COGFA vote and quotes Laurie Jo Reynolds from Tamms Year Ten.
