Invitation for your submission to the
Joint Workshop on Planning for Complex Real-World Applications (CAIPI) and Bridging the Gap Between AI Planning and (Reinforcement) Learning (PRL)
IJCAI’26, Bremen, Germany
August 15–17, 2026
This joint workshop brings together researchers from symbolic planning, reinforcement learning, LLM-based planning, and neuro-symbolic approaches to discuss both theoretical foundations and real-world applications of sequential decision-making. The goal is to strengthen exchange across communities that often develop in parallel despite shared challenges and interests.
Topics of interest include, among others:
* real-world applications for planning and reinforcement learning
* novel planning algorithms for real-world settings
* LLMs in planning and reinforcement learning
* automated generation of planning domain descriptions
* reinforcement learning (model-based, Bayesian, deep, hierarchical, etc.)
* learning for planning, generalized planning, and Monte Carlo planning
* model representation and model learning
* planning with approximate or uncertain learned models
* learned search heuristics for planner guidance
* theoretical aspects of planning and reinforcement learning
* datasets and benchmarks across planning and RL
* action policy analysis or certification
* planning and reinforcement learning competitions
Important dates:
* Paper submission deadline: May 15, 2026 (AOE)
* Acceptance notification: June 15, 2026 (AOE)
Submission formats:
* Long papers: 10–15 pages + unlimited references/appendices
* Short papers: 6–9 pages + unlimited references/appendices
* Extended abstracts: up to 4 pages + unlimited references/appendices
We plan to publish proceedings with CEUR-WS on an optional basis. Accepted papers may choose whether or not to appear in the archival proceedings. Papers accepted at the IJCAI-ECAI main conference should not be submitted, but already accepted papers from other conferences may be submitted if they fit the workshop scope, though they cannot be included in the CEUR-WS proceedings.
Please note that IJCAI-ECAI 2026 will be held in person, and authors of accepted workshop papers are expected to attend and present physically.
