Paper is biodegradable and renewable... in fact, If we used less paper there would be fewer forests. The paper industry supports huge forests all over the world that are managed and continually replanted, providing clean air, clean water, and wildlife habitats.
When you don't need your paper anymore, be sure to recycle it. Just be aware that recycling does not support growth forests. No forests are planted in the recycling process. The first thinning of a plantation usually takes place when the trees are around one third of their growth life.
This thinning allows the rest to grow bigger and taller increasing the life of the forest and cleaning the atmosphere.
Do you think any plantation manager will spend the money and time to do this if he could not sell the fibre for paper making.

Forestry is the most sustainable of all the primary industries that provide us with energy and materials. To address climate change we must use more wood, not less. Using wood sends a signal to the marketplace to grow more trees. ~ Dr. Patrick Moore, Co-founder, Greenpeace
• In 1992 there was 360% more wood in the forest than in 1920.
• 60% of paper today is recycled compared to 18% of electronic devices.
• Reading a newspaper everyday spends 20% less carbon-dioxide than reading an online news source for 30 minutes a day.
