Hello AtoM Community,

We have recently made available a demo site with code from our QA branch from AtoM: https://qa-demo.accesstomemory.org/

This QA server will be updated every two weeks and can be used for pre-release testing.

For anyone not familiar with our development practices in GitHub, our QA branch is where we develop our AtoM releases. This means that if you are interested in testing a new feature that will be in the next release, you can use this QA demo site.

We hope this will allow community members to test new features before release and provide any feedback without needing access in your organisation to a QA version of AtoM.

Best wishes,
Sarah Mason

It seems as if the translations from Weblate are not included.
Bug or Feature?

Regards,

Thanks for the feedback, Hans-Arno!

Translations would not be included in QA unless we made a pull request from Weblate. See here for the latest example just before the release of 2.10. So it will show up in the QA demo when we merge those PRs, but we tend to make them as part of the release process. I will raise this point with them though at our next group meeting.

Best wishes,
Sarah

Thanks Sarah, this is great!

Will https://demo.accesstomemory.org/ still be available or should we use only https://qa-demo.accesstomemory.org/ as the official AtoM demo/testing site going forward? I'm getting a "can't connect" error when trying to access https://demo.accesstomemory.org/ in both Chrome and Safari.

Thanks for your help,
Kelli

Hi Kelli,

https://demo.accesstomemory.org/  is still the go-to site to test and demo AtoM in the latest stable version. The new QA site is only for testing our work towards a release, but things might be broken, new bugs might be introduced and it will change every two weeks. However, it's where you can test things as we're working on them, which is especially useful when we are looking for feedback on new features or big changes.

You are right though that the demo site is down! I'm unable to connect as well. I've put a request into Support to look into that, so it should be fixed soon. I will let you know. Thank you for catching that!

Thanks,
Sarah

https://demo.accesstomemory.org/ is back online! Let me know if you still cannot reach it. Again, thanks for reporting it. Do keep using this site for any testing and demos of the latest stable release (currently 2.10.0). Any testing of development work and new features for future releases can be done in the QA demo site (updated every 2 weeks).

Now I was able to access - thanks.
But it is version 2.9.2!?

And like in QA-Demo. the settings->diacritics crashes!

Still not really stable :-(

Thanks for the feedback about the version, Hans-Arno. I have alerted Support. We have a point release coming soon, so they might wait to update to that.

Some things are configured not to work on the demo site as it is public, but I will check about this setting. If you experience the same behaviour on your own sites, do log an issue! Thank you.

Best wishes,
Sarah

Are there plans to upgrade the site to 2.10.1?

We noticed that the https://demo.accesstomemory.org/ site appears to be using Altcha for JS challenge. Just wondering, is Altcha only enabled on the demo site for now? Will Altcha be recommended for future AtoM versions?
Thanks,
Cindy

Hi all,

We have plans to upgrade the demo site to 2.10.1 and there's currently a ticket with our deployment team. It's a lower priority than other urgent upgrades, but we will et to it soon!

As for using Altcha for the JS challenge, this feature is currently not a part of AtoM. We are testing using altcha+botd but in haproxy in our demo site, and hope after some testing and review to make it part of AtoM. But at this time it is not part of AtoM. You can see more here about our tests: https://github.com/artefactual-labs/ansible-haproxy-decision

If you are interested in testing or developing your own, we would love feedback!

I should add there already is a built in JS challenge in the latest version of AtoM, so what we use in the demo site is not needed, but we are testing its functionality and additional security settings. But it is not necessary to use if you are upgrading/installing the latest AtoM version. We may continue to test haproxy in our demo site, but we use the inbuilt JS challenge in other deployments.

Again, if you have a test AtoM site, you can test it and we would welcome feedback.

Thanks for the clarification and for sharing the link.
It’s good to know that Altcha is in the testing phase on demo site. We may try it on a test site and will share feedback if we do.
Best regards,
Cindy
