Update on the 2.9 AtoM release

Hello AtoM community members,
Many of you may have gathered from recent posts that we are preparing a 2.9 release of AtoM. While we had been working for some time on a release of AtoM which would replace Elasticsearch with Solr, recent announcements from Elasticsearch have put us back on the path of keeping Elasticsearch as the standard, but it does need to be upgraded to modern versions. Our plan now for 2.9 is:
Upgrade Elasticsearch to 6.x
Upgrade PHP to 8.x
Support on Ubuntu 24.04 and Rocky Linux 9
Bootstrap 2.x will remain an option until the 2.10 release when it will be removed (users are encouraged to upgrade themes to Bootstrap 5.x ASAP).
Our hope had been to have this release ready by now but it's been more complicated than we hoped. Please keep your eyes open for an announcement in the new year.
