Hello, good evening!

I'm doing tests with custom themes for Atom and I found a theme on Atom's own Wiki (theme made by albertopereira, named arAPPlugin) and I'm facing a small problem regarding the digital object links.

As this is a test, I have a local installation of atom running in a VM (in our main service the upload of files to atom is done by DIP in Archivematica), but in this case I did it manually; When I am logged into the admin user I get the following display:

login_theme_digital.png
And:

login_theme_digital2.png

However, if I log out of the administrator account and view the site from the view of a user who would access it without an account I get the following display of the same upload:

login_theme_digital3.png
if I access the file "Historico" the display is the same as I showed previously in the second image:

login_theme_digital4.png

I have tried to investigate some possibilities, but have not been successful in solving the problem. I would be very happy if you could help me!

Thank you very much!

Hi Nicolas,

If this turns out to be a problem with the theme itself, then there's not much I can offer - you'll have to hope that Alberto sees your post and can respond. We happily list community AtoM development projects on the wiki to support our community members in development and exchange, but make no guarantees as to their quality or functionality.

In the meantime, let's consider a few local possibilities.
  • Have you checked the permissions of the anonymous user group in Admin > Groups to ensure that View permissions are enabled for thumbnails, reference images, and (if you want) the master / original, so that public users can access the thumbs?
  • Do the associated descriptions have any PREMIS rights statements attached that might be affecting digital object permissions?
  • Are the associated descriptions published?
  • Is the behavior any different between locally uploaded digital objects and those linked via URL?
  • Is your Base URL set correctly in Admin > Settings > Site information?
  • Do you notice anything different about the URL in the search results page where the thumbnails aren't working?
Those are all the questions I can think of right now about internal AtoM settings or deployment configurations that might affect digital object display for public users. Let us know what you find!

Cheers,

Hi Dan, thanks a lot for the feedback!
I ended up noticing that in other Themes (such as the default Atom theme) this error I reported above was not happening, so I interpreted it as being a configuration problem in the platform. I checked the group options and in the "anonymous" group I enabled the "read" option for the Master. This ended up showing the image in the "popular this week" even though I was logged out of the admin option. However, the display of the thumbnails in anonymous mode are still disabled (and in administrator mode displaying normally), but even though I changed all the read and view options in the anonymous group I still could not display the thumbnail.

now making a reference to the github README where Alberto published his theme, it is written the following: "By default, Atom permissions allow descriptions to be read in browse lists, sidebar facets, "Popular this week" list. This theme removes any items that a specific user, or user group, doesn't have permissions to read;"

I think this information may be the key to the situation, but I don't know exactly how to proceed

Hi Nicolas,

Glad to hear you've made some progress!

I'd suggest that you disable the custom theme for a minute, or re-enable the base Dominion theme, and review - do the thumbnails display as expected in search and browse results in the default theme? If no, then there's still some issue or setting to track down. If yes, then the problem is likely something in the custom theme.

If it's the theme, then I might next suggest contacting Alberto if possible? I don't know if he is still maintaining this theme, but you could for example try opening an issue ticket on the GitHub repository.

Good luck!
