Dear all,

Is there a way to modify the EAD tags used by AtoM or their formatting?

Indeed, when I add the (conform) EAD file of a fonds, some <list> are not displayed as such but as paragraphs without separation between the different <item> in particular the <arrangement> and <note @type= elements "sourcesDescription"> elements.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,

If you would like to make local customizations to the EAD 2002 XML tags used or how the export file is rendered, I believe that most if not all of what you will need will be found within the sfEadPlugin. See:
I am not a developer myself, but I would probably start by inspecting the template files found in the modules subdirectory.

If you want to just improve the layout for legibility, one simple workaround I do sometimes is to simply take my export and manually run it through pretty-print utility, to properly indent and format the XML. See for example:
This could likely be improved in code too - a simple search has turned up a number of results that make it seem like it shouldn't be too hard. For example:
If you do make general improvements to the EAD export code, feel free to send us a pull request!

Hi Dan,

Thank you for your answer.

If I understand correctly, this documentation is about how the XML export is formatted but my question was more about how the XML is displayed in AtoM.

Indeed, the <list> elements within the <arrangement> and <note @type= "sourcesDescription"> elements are displayed by AtoM as HTML <p> elements instead of <ul> and <li>.

Is there any way to change this?

Best regards,

Nicolas

Hi again Nicolas,

Sorry if that wasn't clear, but I was trying to provide you with options for both formatting / presentation AND customization of the elements used.

Pretty much everything you want can be found in the template files included in the EAD plugin. For example, the <p> elements used inside the <arrangement> tag are here:

Hi Dan,

My bad, I didn't understand that it would work for both export and display.

Thank you for your help.
