Interacting accounts

Hi there!

I haven't really understood how do Archivematica and AtoM accounts interact.

I mean: I have only two possible accounts in Archivematica (Admin and General User) and I have five in AtoM (Contributor, Editor, Admin, Researcher, Translator).

As I need to configure the two systems together (I need to manage many Archives from different Institutions) should I have one account for AM and one for AtoM? and at which level?

Hello,

At this time, there is no real interaction between the accounts in AtoM and Archivematica. Both General Users and Administrators in Archvivematica should be able to perform DIP uploads to a properly configured related AtoM instance.

Archivematica does require the credentials of at least one Administrator account in AtoM as part of configuring the upload, as described here:

This means that you need at least one Admin account in AtoM - but you would need that anyway to be able to manage settings, etc. Otherwise, the accounts do not interact. Creating an admin in Archivematica does not automatically do so in AtoM, or vice versa. You can still have multiple Administrator accounts in both application for your admin users, however.

Generally, the permissions associated with user accounts in both applications are only related to actions that can and cannot be performed in each separate application. For more information on user roles and permissions in AtoM, see:
