Hello,
We, the photo library of the Bibliothèque Orientale (Université Saint-Joseph, Lebanon), wish to install the latest version of AtoM (both the test interface and the production interface).
Our IT department is asking which container can be used for this.
We have heard about Docker for AtoM, but I read a discussion on this group recommending doing a native installation.
Can we have your feed back for this issue?

Thank you from Beirut,

Hi Elza

The preferred method it the native install. You can do Docker but as in the discussions, it is harder to maintain and could be slower.

But nothing is stopping you to use it if your people have the right IT skills.

Check with your IT department if you can just use a Virtual Machine with a full AtoM install. I do run my AtoM on containers but it's very circumstantial to my use case, where the resources are very decentralized and shared between different applications.

Hi Elsa, I manage several Atom servers and I have them all installed natively. I've tried Docker, and it can offer some advantages, but as Johan says, it depends a lot on your IT department and your Atom needs.
In my experience, if you customize Atom and want to manually run some things, Docker can be more complicated for that.

So, unless your IT team has the infrastructure set up with Docker and finds it better, I would recommend a native installation.
If your Atom server is very large and receives a lot of traffic, you could have the different services on separate machines.

Best regards,

I run all my instances in Virtual Machines.

I have no Docker deployments other than testing
