Hello everyone,

I'm using version 2.7.1 - 192.

I encountered problems with uploading digital objects. I tried both options available to me "addDigitalObject" and "multiFileUploader" and none of them seem to work (I got a time out error page), though the file is only a 33Kb PDF.

However, the original problem I was trying to fix is the following: is there a way to avoid that thumbnails of digital object attached to one single description are automatically showed at their upper level?

Thanks in advance,
Alfredo Mignini

Hi Alfredo,

Digital object upload troubleshooting

A timeout on a PDF that small is strange. How exactly were you trying to upload it?
  • Is the PDF local (on your local computer), or are you trying to use a URL to an online PDF somewhere to upload it?
  • You said you got the same result from the single "Link Digital Object" option and the multi-upload "Upload Digital objects" option - is that correct?
  • Were you uploading these via the user interface? Or via a CSV import, or from the command-line?
  • Have you tried other file types? Is it only PDFs, or all digital objects that are not working?
Additionally, about your system:
Some things you could try:
Let us know how it goes!

Thumbnail display of digital objects at higher levels

If you mean the carousel of lower-level digital objects that is displayed in an archival unit, you can turn this carousel off (so it no longer appears globally in your AtoM installation) via the settings. Navigate to Admin > Settings > Default page elements, and uncheck the "Digital object carousel" option, and save. See:

If you mean more generally controlling the visibility of thumbnails in search / browse results etc., I have found an older user forum thread where I outline some of the options that AtoM supports, here:

Hope this helps!

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your reply and sorry for my late update.

We actually discovered that there was a different problem and manage to solve it.

Here our log on /var/log/nginx/error.log:

2024/05/10 22:58:58 [error] 3019053#3019053: *41156174 FastCGI sent in stderr: "PHP message: File write to .../atom/uploads/r/... failed. See setting directory and file permissions documentation" while reading response header from upstream, client: [...], server: [...], request: "POST /archives/index.php/{identifier}/object/addDigitalObject HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://unix:/var/run/php/php7.4-fpm.sock:", host: "[...]", referrer: "~/object/addDigitalObject"

We followed this instructions:

https://www.accesstomemory.org/en/docs/2.8/admin-manual/installation/ubuntu/#filesystem-permissions

Hope that could be of help for others too.

Best,
Alfredo
