There is no brew formula to install elastichsearch on a Mac. This is the error message:

Warning: No available formula with the name "elasticsearch".

elasticwolf

To install elasticwolf, run:
  brew install --cask elasticwolf

.................................

Trying to install elasticwolf returns this error message:

Error: Cask 'elasticwolf' has been disabled because it is no longer available upstream!

..................................

Of course, trying to run the atom installer returns an error because of an elasticsearch connection failure.

Any way to install locally AtoM on a Mac?

Hi Robert, 

AtoM is intended to be installed on a server in any case. If you are looking for a local installation on Mac for testing, demo, and/or development purposes only, then I recommend you try one of our development environments, which are virtual environments made for quick set up on personal devices but are NOT scaled or persistent for ongoing production use. See:

• Docker: https://www.accesstomemory.org/docs/latest/dev-manual/env/compose/

Hi Dan,

The page at https://app.vagrantup.com/artefactual/boxes/atom indicates that v2.7.0.3 is the currently released version. Do you know if there's a plan to add a 2.8 box at some point?

I tend to use my own Vagrantfile + bash script for my own testing, but I recognise that a pre-made Vagrant box is incredibly convenient. There's also the AtoM GNU/Linux Installer, which I must say looks very slick. I've sometimes wondered whether they'd be a case for replacing the manual installation instructions with something like this, or at least making an installer-based set of instructions the default. I'd hope it would catch those attempts to install AtoM e.g. on some untested OS, or with a dependency that's the wrong version, etc, etc.

Hi Jim, 

I checked with the AtoM Maintainers, who said: 

we're not planing on updating the dev envs for 2.8 at this point and will wait until 2.9 before any new updates to the vagrant boxes. The docker env should still be up to date though.

Another option for M1 Macs is QEMU - I've heard very good things about it. There's a QEMU provider for Vagrant too, if you want to go down the Vagrant route.
