ARCHIVESCANADA.ca Working Group Announced
Ottawa, ON, October 8, 2024—The Canadian Council of Archives has constituted a Working Group to assess and re-envision the national finding aid network, ARCHIVESCANADA.ca. The Working Group consists of 18 members from across Canada. The members are tasked with:
· Developing a snapshot of users (researchers, archives patrons, archivists) and their needs.
· Assessing the current status of, and problems with, ARCHIVESCANADA.ca.
· Determining whether there are solutions that will improve the status quo.
· Evaluating alternatives to the status quo.
The Working Group will deliver a final report on ARCHIVESCANADA.ca to the Canadian Council of Archives on the completion of its two-year mandate which began in January 2024.

A survey of archives, gallery, library, and museum workers and a survey of researchers will be distributed this Fall to gain public feedback. Plans are also underway to conduct individual interviews and focus groups. Background research about the history and context of ARCHIVESCANADA.ca is also underway.
Working Group membership came together organically during discussions with CCA, the Joint US-Canada AtoM Users Group, and through invitations to contacts at provincial and territorial archives associations. We acknowledge that the membership does not reflect the rich diversity of the GLAM field in Canada. We hope through the surveys, interviews, and focus groups to widely consult with as many people as possible. Ottawa, ON, le 8 octobre 2024— Le Conseil canadien des archives a constitué un groupe de travail chargé d'étudier et de redéfinir le réseau national d'information archivistique, ARCHIVESCANADA.ca. Le groupe de travail est composé de 18 membres provenant de tout le Canada. Les membres ont les responsabilités suivantes :
· Dresser un portrait des utilisateurs (chercheurs, usagers des archives, archivistes) et de leurs besoins.
· Évaluer l'état actuel d'ARCHIVESCANADA.ca et les problèmes rencontrés.
· Déterminer s'il existe des solutions pour améliorer le statu quo.
· Évaluer les alternatives au statu quo.
Le groupe de travail présentera son rapport final sur ARCHIVESCANADA.ca au Conseil canadien des archives au terme de son mandat de deux ans, qui a débuté en janvier 2024.

Un sondage auprès du personnel des archives, des galeries, des bibliothèques et des musées ainsi qu'un sondage auprès des chercheurs seront distribués cet automne afin de recueillir les commentaires du public. Des entretiens individuels et des groupes de discussion sont également prévus. Des recherches sur l'historique et le contexte d'ARCHIVESCANADA.ca sont également en cours.
La composition du groupe de travail s'est faite de manière organique au cours de discussions avec le CCA, le groupe conjoint États-Unis-Canada des utilisateurs d'AtoM (Joint US-Canada AtoM Users Group), et par le biais d'invitations lancées à des contacts au sein des associations d'archives provinciales et territoriales. Nous reconnaissons que la composition du groupe ne reflète pas la riche diversité du secteur des galeries, bibliothèques, archives et musées (GLAM) au Canada. Nous espérons consulter le plus grand nombre de personnes possible par le biais de sondages, d'entrevues et de groupes de discussion.
