Hi All,

I need a little help and I release that I am going about this in the wrong way but I am trying to learn it myself at the moment.

I have been trying to figure out how to change the numbering/identifier sequence in a few scenarios. I want to learn how the numbering can be changed without manually changing each record.

I have created a list of records that have a simple numerical identifier sequence. I decided that I wanted to move the last record to a different position so dragged and dropped it. This changed nothing but the record's position (which I did expect).

I then edited the record to change the number to one already used by another record so I now have two records with the same identifier (which I also expected).

I tried to use the Generate identifier button but it wanted to skip a number in the sequence and push the record further down the sequence.

Is there a way to add records into a sequence without having to manually renumber everything?

Is there a way to reorder records without having to manually renumber everything?

Sorry for the terrible way I've gone about this.

Thank you,

Helen

Subject: [atom-users] Numbering/Identifier sequence

Yes that is normal as it does not follow the numbering order in the tree view

I then edited the record to change the number to one already used by another record so I now have two records with the same identifier (which I also expected).

Expected yes

I tried to use the Generate identifier button but it wanted to skip a number in the sequence and push the record further down the sequence.

This is just adding the next number to the settings field under Identifier -> Identifier counter

You can change that number but could create duplicates if the number was already used.

Is there a way to add records into a sequence without having to manually renumber everything?

The generate button should do it if you set the number correctly

Is there a way to reorder records without having to manually renumber everything?

Unfortunately

Sorry for the terrible way I've gone about this.

Thank you,

Helen

Hi Johan,

Thank you so much. It's great to have that clarified.
