Hello all!

We have created a full set of translated strings for an AtoM installation (version 2.2.1) using the translation web interface. We now need to use this same set on another AtoM installation (same version) without having to redo the work using the translation web interface.

However, it has been impossible to find where these translated strings are stored, either in the installation file system or in the database. They don't seem to be stored in the messages.xml file for the corresponding language in the Translation Plugin directory or elsewhere in other messages.xml files in other directories.

How do we proceed? What do we copy from one installation to the other to make this work?

Hi there,

Unfortunately, this is at present a very difficult thing to do. I will ask our developers to see if they can offer suggestions, but we have found that there are conflicts between locally stored translations and the translations provided by our user community for new releases via Transifex, our chosen translation application - there is not currently any way to reconcile the two, so adding locally translated strings from a previous version to a new, upgraded installation might make new strings inaccessible for translation via the web interface.

We have an outstanding wishlist item to develop a process to manage these difficulties - see:

Thus far, no institutions have prioritized it for development. For this reason, we strongly encourage our users to contribute to the community translations via Transifex - not only will you be contributing to translating the application for the entire community, you will also avoid having to manage local translations through subsequent versions. For more information, see:

In the meantime, I will see if our developers can offer you some suggestions on how best to proceed.
