Dear all,

In my archival fonds, there are various subfonds (for different periods or functions). Some of these subfonds have already been fully described, other not (and won't be for a while). That is why I would like to upload existing finding aids for subfonds only, not for the complete archival fonds.

However, it does not seem possible in Atom, since when I click the finding aids upload button in the right column of the subfonds page, it opens the "upload finding aid page" for the related fonds.
I tried modifying the url of the "upload finding aid" page to access the same page for the subfonds, and it seemed to work. The job page also confirmed that the task was successfully completed and links to the correct subfonds page.

But then, I cannot see the uploaded finding aid on the subfonds page (and neither on the related fonds page).

Could someone help with this? Does the possibility exist?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Best regards,

Aude

Hi Aude,

Unfortunately, at this time AtoM only supports one finding aid per archival unit - that is, one per hierarchy. It will require further analysis and development for AtoM to be able to include different finding aids at different levels of a single hierarchy.

It's not ideal, but one option might be to upload the subfonds finding aids as digital objects on each target subfonds. That way they will at least be present and visible to your end users. They will not show up in finding aid searches performed in the advanced search panel, and they will show up as digital objects (with a media type of Text). See:
Alternatively, if you have a separate institutional website or some other publicly accessible place to upload your finding aids, you could use Markdown to add links to these external subfonds finding aids directly in the body of the subfonds description. See:
Hope this helps!

Hi Dan,

Thanks a lot for your answer and the proposed alternatives. It is clear and I will see which option I choose with further analysis according to the number of inventories and content of the fonds (another option being transforming the existing inventories in EAD).

Is this possibility on the roadmap of Atom?

With best regards,

Aude

Hi Aude,

Is this possibility on the roadmap of Atom?

While Artefactual is in the process of slowly transforming our business model into something more sustainable and driven by a product vision (rather than just adding anything that users will pay for), currently we depend on our community for feature development, either in the form of code contributions or development sponsorship. Currently there is no institution that has committed to sponsoring related development work, so at this time, there's nothing concrete related to this feature request on the roadmap. If your institution might be interested in sponsoring development work related to this, please feel free to contact Artefactual to discuss options.

In the meantime, you can see what features have so far been confirmed to be included in the upcoming 2.7 release here:
