Hi Jan,
The Canadian RAD standard was created before the ICA had released its international standards - so, lacking a model to follow, the first version of RAD was basically the library cataloguing standard (AACR2) with some minor modifications (basically bunging a whole bunch of extra archives-related fields into the Notes section of the standard).
When we were developing AtoM, the ICA was very explicit about how its standards, such as ISAD(G), should be implemented. Consequently, while AtoM has many different event terms listed in the Event types taxonomy (which populates the "Type" drop-down next to dates in the edit templates), the ISAD(G) template will filter all other results from the taxonomy so that only those directly from the ISAD standard show - creation and accumulation.
The RAD standard, by contrast, will show many more - including Publication. So you can add other event types such as publication, contribution, manufacturing, broadcast, collection, and more, and associate these directly with an authority record. Because the terms are maintained in a taxonomy, an Administrator could also add whatever custom terms you need to the Event types taxonomy and they would show up in the dates/events widget in the RAD template for use.
Here's a test example of me adding a publisher entry this way:
Note that RAD has other fields that would be useful for published materials as well - for example the Standard number area is intended to capture ISBN or other controlled numbers. There is also an Edition area in the standard.
In AtoM you can set the default template throughout your entire catalog via Admin > Settings > Default template. However, you can also set this per-description, using the options listed in the Administration area of a description's edit page. See:
You could even have a mix of templates used in the same hierarchy - so if you wanted to use ISAD in most places, but found the RAD template useful just for one particular item to capture more information, that would be possible as well.
Cheers,
