Turn off English mode in Pinyin Chinese input?

Is there a way to disable the 'shift key to switch to English' mode in
Chinese Pinyin input? I always use the full input method selector (ctrl
+ space, in my case) to switch from Chinese to English, and I
accidentally hit the shift key far more often than I ever do it
intentionally. This means I accidentally leave Chinese mode when I don't
want to. I'd rather use the shift keys for more useful things, or just
have them turned off while using Pinyin Chinese. I never want to switch
via a single key between Chinese and English mode when I'm in Pinyin
Chinese.

Thanks,
-- Rachel Kronick

p.s. I haven't seen a response to my earlier question about Firefox and
Thunderbird input problems. Is this being investigated?

I think now is Chinese holidays and no reply.

I don't see any problems with FF and TB so I would think you might not
provide the exact environment or some user settings would be wrong.

If you need that feature, please file it in
https://github.com/libpinyin/ibus-libpinyin/issues .

Hmm, that makes sense. It has been almost a month, but Mid-Autumn
Festival is happening.

The problem only occurs with Pinyin Chinese input; with Anthy, Pinyin
with Tones, or English, I have no such problems. I'm using Linux Mint 17.
