Hello,

I’ve noticed the the IBTracs netcdf files in https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/data/international-best-track-archive-for-climate-stewardship-ibtracs/v04r00/access/netcdf/ have not been updated since 5/28.  When do you expect the dataflow to resume?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

We're in the process of transitioning to IBTrACS v04r01, so sorry for this gap. We've now got the v04r01 data accessible and updating here https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/data/international-best-track-archive-for-climate-stewardship-ibtracs/v04r01/access/netcdf/ but are still in the process of updating the website and sending out announcements.

Thanks,
Jennifer

Thanks, Jennifer!  I will switch my processing script to download the v04r01 data.

Hi Jennifer,

I noticed that the precision on the positions of the tropical cyclones has changed to one decimal place in version v04r01 vs v04r00, which has up to four decimal places of precision.  Was that your intention for the new dataset?

Hi Michael,
Yes, this update to precision is an intentional change and better reflects the actual precision given by the source tracks.

Thanks,
Jennifer
