Duplicate storm id ?

Dear Sir/Madam,
in rather recent ibtracs.ALL.list.v04r00.csv
there might be duplicate of
USA_ATCF_ID=EP121989 at two positions at time 1989-08-14 18:00:00

189828 1989-08-14 18:00:00    1989  HENRIETTE    EP121989      25.0     12.4   -123.7         15.0      286.0
189855 1989-08-14 12:00:00    1989     ISMAEL    EP121989      20.0     12.5    -98.9          4.0      314.0
189857 1989-08-14 18:00:00    1989     ISMAEL    EP121989      25.0     12.8    -99.2          4.0      308.0

Hi Markus,

HENRIETTE and ISMAEL are treated separately in IBTrACS and they do have different storm ids. The issue is with the labelling of the USA_ATCF_ID and occured because both storms have data input into IBTrACS from both HURDAT2 EPac and JTWC and these centers provided reversed storm numbers. While IBTrACS prioritizes the HURDAT2 EPac data for USA values where it is available, the first time step of HENRIETTE is only available from the JTWC data and was given EP121989 as the ATCF_ID; this value then switches to EP111989 once the HURDAT2 EPac data begins. We can look into fixing this, but for now I'd recommend treating HENRIETTE and ISMAEL as two separate storms based on their storm IDs.

Thanks,
Jennifer
