Dear team,

I would like to extend my gratitude for providing us with the global cyclone tracker dataset. However, I have noticed that storms occurring in European regions (such as the UK, Ireland, Denmark, and Sweden) are not included in the dataset. Could you please clarify whether there are any plans to incorporate these European storms into the list? It would be highly beneficial to have comprehensive coverage.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Best regards,

Somnath

Hi Somnath,
IBTrACS is a database for tropical cyclones, so extratropical cyclones will not get included unless they existed as tropical storms before transitioning. Tropical storms that then reach Europe are included for as long as our sources continue tracking (for example Hurricane Ophelia in 2017 https://ncics.org/ibtracs/index.php?name=v04r00-2017280N32321).

Thanks,
Jennifer
