Hi,

The naming of EP211992 is Seymour in IBTrACS, HURDAT and also in most public pages (e.g. Wikipedia). NHC archive also yields that it was SEYMOUR in 1992 (www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/storm_wallets/epacific/ep1992/seymour/tropdisc/nep2192.002) and has been written as Seymour in the storm wallets (www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/storm_wallets/epacific/ep1992/seymour/). However, in the NHC best track it's spelled as Seymore (EP, 21, 1992091712,   , BEST,   0, 169N, 1077W,  30, 1009, TD, , , , , , , , , , , , , ,    SEYMORE), and also Seymore in the 1992 EPAC summary (https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/data/tcr/index.php?season=1992&basin=epac). I've tried to reach for the NHC/NOAA for information but did not get any reply, so I wonder if your team could provide some information or guesses on why this inconsistency would exist. Thank you!

Best regards.

Hi,

I do not have any information about why this inconsistency in naming exists, but will say that IBTrACS uses Seymour because IBTrACS treats HURDAT2 data preferentially over ATCF where they differ.
Moreover, note that Seymour is on the current list of Eastern North Pacific names, which supports the use of this spelling.

Thanks,
Jennifer
